Chelmsford has been left without Uber after the company had to make changes to where their drivers could pick up passengers. The ridesharing app is legally allowed to operate within London and other major cities across the UK where it holds the licences to operate.
Uber is not a licensed operator with Chelmsford City Council and other councils within Essex. On Thursday 15th March 2018, Uber was forced to make changes to its operation because Transport for London (TfL) recognised that drivers serving passengers requesting pick ups outside of the TfL zone were unlawful.
Chelmsford is safer without Uber
Chelmsford is a better and safer place without Uber. The value of local drivers, traditional taxi and private hire companies is unbeatable. Here are some of the reasons why Chelmsford Taxis and Chelmsford Taxi Drivers are better and safer.
1. You get some actual human to human
contact
While it seems that technology nowadays is specifically geared towards limiting
human contact when carrying out everyday tasks, the fact that traditional taxi
companies such as Happicabs have someone, often an office, you can call with
any issues is a huge plus. Imagine you lose a valuable item in an Uber and
don’t realise until a couple of hours later, you have to rely on the driver
answering a call from an unknown number in order to get it back if it hasn’t
already been picked up by another customer and pocketed! Having a reliable
point of contact for when something goes wrong provides much more peace of
mind, especially if you’re in an unfamiliar city, so think twice before
ordering that Uber!
2. You get to take advantage of cab
drivers encyclopaedic knowledge
It’s a well-known fact that local cab drivers are familiar with their
local area because of the extensive knowledge test they undertake. Chelmsford
Taxi Drivers know the fast way to get you from A to B including short-cuts to
reduce miles and time spend in traffic jams. So if you need to be somewhere
fast, there is nobody better to take you.
3. You can be assured of your safety
Licensed Chelmsford cab drivers have a duty of care towards their passengers,
and it is part of their job to make sure that they do everything within their
power to ensure you get to your destination safety. Rideshare companies such as
Uber move their drivers from area to area, these drivers are heavily reliant on
their satellite navigation systems. So if you’re in Chelmsford City or a city
that you’re unfamiliar with, the best step you can take to ensure you safety is
to use a locally licensed taxi firm.
4. You can budget more effectively using
a Chelmsford Taxi
Most Chelmsford taxi
providers will be able to tell you exactly how much the fare will be in
advance. Furthermore, local taxi companies very rarely, if ever, hike their
rates based on how much demand there is on their service like the apps do. This
means that you’ll avoid opening your app and staring in horror at the fact that
prices have been quadrupled because its Saturday at 11pm and everyone’s wanting
to go to town.
5. More
availability of larger vehicles
While the availability of standard cars on apps like
Uber may often be a small wait, when it comes to trying to transport more
people you’ll often be left high and dry. Local taxi companies exist in order
to provide a great service to their clients, and as such, they will often have
a fleet of larger vehicles for groups of up to 8 people to make sure everyone
gets to the party on time and together!
We hope to have explained why Uber does not operate in Chelmsford and we hope to have convinced you to why you’re better off using locally based taxi firms like Happicabs. Local taxi companies thrive on the patronage of their valued customers, so if you can get a local chelmsford cab, do it and enjoy the fact that, in the process, you’re supporting a local business that employs local people. Win!
